Strategic Consulting

Strategy that leadership owns, and the organization can run.

We sit in the room with your leadership team, build the strategy with you, not for you, and stay long enough to make sure it actually lands. One firm. One team. Accountable for the outcome.

No deck. No pitch. You'll leave with a clear read on your biggest strategic risk, whether you hire us or not.

How We Work · Applied to Strategy

Discover. Transform. Steward.

Every Novum engagement moves through the same three phases. What changes is the depth of work, shaped by where you are and what your mission requires.

01 · Discover

Where you are, and what makes you unique.

4-S Diagnostic (Soul, Strategy, Structure, Systems). Stakeholder interviews. Market and competitive read. Financial and operational context. We understand the full picture before we prescribe a single move.

02 · Transform

The right setup, so leadership can decide.

We co-write the strategy with the leadership team, design the operating model, redraw the org where needed, and build the cadences and scorecards that make the plan run, so leaders can decide efficiently and effectively.

03 · Steward

We steward the growth with you.

Quarterly strategic reviews, course corrections, board and executive coaching, and the ongoing partnership that keeps the strategy current as the market and organization change.

11

Fractional C-Suite

Embedded CEO, COO, CFO, or CHRO-level leadership, bringing the senior capacity you need, exactly when you need it.

12

Change Management

Execution oversight, stakeholder engagement, and the quarterly reviews that keep the plan alive once the consultants would normally leave.

What Good Looks Like

After Novum runs a strategic engagement.

Owned

By leadership

The strategy is not ours, it's theirs. Co-written means leadership actually believes it and can carry it into every room.

Operable

Not aspirational

Every strategic priority lands in the operating system, quarterly goals, scorecards, and the cadence that keeps it running.

Alive

Twelve months later

Because we steward it. Quarterly reviews. Course corrections. Executive coaching. The strategy that's actually in play a year later.

One Firm. Four Disciplines.

Strategy doesn't work alone. Neither do we.

Strategic Consulting: Frequently Asked Questions

What is strategic management and how is it different from strategy consulting?

Strategy consulting hands you a deck and leaves. Strategic management stays. Novum Partners is a strategic management firm, which means Novum sets strategy with you and then runs the operating cadence that makes the strategy stick: board reporting, scorecards, quarterly business reviews, leadership coaching, and the ongoing systems that turn a plan into compounding results. The McKinseys and Bains of the world build the playbook and exit. Novum builds the playbook, builds the team that runs the playbook, and sits in the room until the operating model is producing the outcomes the strategy promised. For mission-driven organizations, strategy without execution is the most expensive mistake on the table.

What is Novum's 4-S Framework?

The 4-S Framework is Novum Partners' proprietary organizational diagnostic that assesses four dimensions: Soul (mission clarity, theological and values alignment, leadership conviction), Strategy (where we are going, what we will not do, three-year plan and capital allocation), Structure (org design, roles, decision rights, governance), and Systems (financial, HR, technology, operating cadence). Most consulting firms only look at strategy. Most accounting firms only look at systems. The 4-S surfaces the real bottleneck, which is almost never where leadership thought it was, and produces a single integrated plan rather than four disconnected workstreams. Every Novum engagement begins with a 4-S diagnostic, and the findings drive everything downstream.

What is the Discover, Transform, Steward delivery framework?

Discover, Transform, Steward is how Novum Partners delivers every engagement. Discover is the diagnostic phase: Novum runs the 4-S, audits the financials, interviews leadership, and surfaces what is actually broken versus what is loudest. Transform is the build phase: strategic plan, operating model, financial infrastructure, HR systems, leadership development, governance redesign. Steward is the long-haul phase: Novum manages what was built, holds the cadence, trains the internal team, and stays long enough for the work to compound. Most firms stop at Transform. Novum's commitment to Steward is the difference between a binder on a shelf and an organization that actually changes.

When should a faith-driven business, church, or nonprofit hire a fractional COO?

Hire a fractional COO when the founder or CEO is the operational bottleneck, when strategy is clear but execution is stalling, when the leadership team has grown but no one is integrating across departments, or when a permanent COO hire is six to 18 months away and the work cannot wait. A fractional COO from Novum Partners is delivered inside an embedded transformation engagement (typically six to 18 months) and owns the operating rhythm: leadership team cadence, scorecards, project portfolio, hiring, vendor management, and cross-functional execution. The seat is also used to recruit and onboard the permanent COO when that is the path forward, with a clean handoff at the end of the engagement. Most faith-driven businesses, churches, and nonprofits between $5M and $50M need this seat before they realize they do.

Does Novum advise on mergers, acquisitions, and turnarounds?

Yes. Novum Partners advises on mergers and acquisitions and Business Turnaround engagements specifically for faith-driven businesses, churches, and nonprofits in the $5M to $250M range. On the buy side, Novum builds target criteria, runs financial and operational due diligence, models the deal, and runs post-close integration through Steward. On the sell side, Novum prepares the organization for sale, cleans the financials, builds the data room, and coaches leadership through the diligence process. On Business Turnaround engagements, Novum stabilizes cash, restructures debt, rebuilds the cap table or board, and rebuilds the operating model. Novum does not raise capital or broker transactions; the firm sits on the leadership side of the table.

What is included in a Novum organizational health assessment?

A Novum Partners organizational health assessment is a 30- to 90-day diagnostic engagement structured around the 4-S Framework. It includes leadership and board interviews (typically five to 10 stakeholders, scaling to 20 for larger organizations), a financial deep-read covering three prior years and trailing 12 months, a culture and engagement read, a governance and risk review, a systems and technology audit, and benchmarking against comparable organizations in the sector. Deliverables include a diagnostic findings document (15 to 25 pages), a recommendations report with prioritized actions, a final presentation to leadership and board, and a 30-day post-engagement check-in. Pricing is fixed-fee, scoped at engagement letter. Some clients take the findings and execute internally; others continue with Novum into a deeper strategic engagement or an embedded transformation program.

Does Novum coach founders, CEOs, and executive directors?

Yes. Novum Partners provides executive coaching for founders, CEOs, executive directors, and lead pastors as a standalone engagement or as part of a larger strategic management retainer. Coaching is structured: a written development plan, 12 structured sessions, 360 input from the leadership team and board, and quarterly progress reviews. Topics range from delegation and team building to board management, succession planning, founder transition, conflict navigation, and personal stewardship. Novum's coaches are senior operators who have run organizations through scale, succession, and crisis. Director-level partner oversight is part of every coaching engagement to maintain continuity with Novum's broader work in the organization.
