About the Role

We are seeking a Client-Facing Accounting Manager/Controller who can combine technical expertise with executive presence. This high-level role partners directly with client executives and boards while overseeing accounting teams who manage day-to-day AP, transactions, and reconciliations. 


The accounting manager will ensure excellence in financial operations, deliver executive-ready reporting and presentations, and advise clients on accounting, tax, and compliance matters. This is both a leadership and advisory role, perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, relationships, and financial stewardship. 


Key Responsibilities 

Client Leadership 

  • Serve as the primary finance partner for churches and nonprofit executives and boards. 

  • Present financial insights and recommendations with clarity and confidence. 

  • Build trusted relationships with leadership teams and stakeholders. 

Accounting Oversight 

  • Direct and review the work of transaction teams handling AP, AR, payroll, and reconciliations. 

  • Ensure accurate month-end closes and timely financial reporting. 

  • Maintain high standards of compliance and internal controls. 

Reporting & Analysis 

  • Develop dashboards, reports, and board-level presentations that inform strategic decisions. 

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning processes. 

  • Translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations. 

Tax & Compliance 

  • Advise clients on compliance risks. 

  • Monitor regulatory updates impacting  churches and nonprofits. 

  • Partner with internal/external tax specialists to ensure timely, accurate filings. 


Qualifications 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 

  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience serving SMBs and/or nonprofits. 

  • Strong proficiency in Sage Intacct and/or QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

  • Experience managing team members. 

  • Executive communication skills, with confidence in boardroom settings. 

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit FUND accounting (FASB/ASC 958). 

  • CPA or CMA designation


Preferred: 

  • Public Accounting Firm Experience 

  • Tax compliance experience for SMBs and/or nonprofits. 

  • Strong financial modeling and advanced Excel/BI reporting skills.
